  Rheumatology
Musculoskeletal conditions are a major cause of disability in the US, affecting quality of life. Arthritis, other rheumatic conditions, and osteoporosis are thought to have a substantial impact on public health and quality of life. The various forms of arthritis affect more than 15% of the US population. Arthritis is the leading cause of disability in the US and limits the activities of nearly 3% of the population. In addition, arthritis is second only to heart disease in overall work disability ratings. Thus, arthritis has a sizable economic impact, as nearly 60% of people with arthritis are in the working-age population.

The France Foundation recognizes the importance of the rheumatology specialty and has dedicated educational activities in this field. Many of these activities are designed to educate rheumatologists, and other medical professionals who treat rheumatoid arthritis.
